Romanian tennis player Simona Halep (5th WTA) has qualified on Thursday to the third round of the tournament at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year, after defeating Italian Francesca Schiavone 6-1, 6-1 in 65 minutes. In the next round, Halep will face Kiki Bertens (28th WTA), in a third meeting between the two athletes. Halep won in 2010 at Torhout 2 (ITF), 7-6, 6-2, while Bertens took revenge two years later, at Fes, 6-3, 6-4.

Monica Niculescu has also qualified in the second round at Wimbledon after defeating Aleksandra Krunic (120th WTA) 6-1, 6-4.

In the second round, Monica will face Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine, 39th WTA). The game will take place on Friday.

In the men’s singles, Marius Copil was eliminated on Thursday by Frenchman Lucas Pouille, score 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 1-6, in a match which started on Wednesday and was interrupted due to rain.
