Wimbledon: Monica Niculescu, defeated in second round by Elise Mertens
Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu, 111th WTA, was defeated on Thursday at Wimbledon by Belgian player Elise Mertens 7-5, 6-0, in the second round of the Grand Slam.
Niculescu led in the first set by one break, served for the set at 5-4, but was equalized 5-5 and then lost the set 7-5.
The second set was dominated by Mertens, whereas Niculescu had some medical problems and requested the physician’s support. Mertens won the second set 6-0.
For her performance, Monica Niculescu will collect 70 WTA points and GBP 72,000.
