Wimbledon: Simona Halep, Irina Begu, Ana Bogdan and Sorana Cirstea through to the second round

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, 2nd seeded, has qualified on Monday to the second round of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament, after defeating Marina Erakovic (New Zealand) in two sets, 6-4, 6-1.

Simona Halep, 25, 2nd WTA, has defeated in one hour and 15 minutes 29-year-old Marina Erakovic, 129th WTA.

For qualifying in round 2, the Romanian will receive GBP 57,000 and 70 WTA points.

In the second round Halep will face Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil, 21 years old, 97th WTA), who has defeated on Monday Laura Robson (Britain) 6-4, 6-2.

Simona Halep and Beatriz Haddad Maia have never played before.

Irina Begu has also qualified to the second round, after defeating Naomi Brady (Britain, 109th WTA) 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 14 minutes.

Another Romanian tennis player, Ana Bogdan, has qualified to the second round for the first time, after defeating Ying-Ying Duan (China, 62nd WTA) in 67 minutes.

On Tuesday, Sorana Cirstea, 63rd WTA, has defeated Kiki Bertens (the Netherlands, 24th WTA) 7-6 (4), 7-5 to qualify to the second round. On the other hand Monica Niculescu was defeated by Magdalena Rybarikova (Slovakia) 6-4, 6-1.
