Wimbledon: Simona Halep qualifies to third round
Second seeded Romanian tennis player Simona Halep qualified on Wednesday to the third round at Wimbledon after defeating Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia 7-5, 6-3.
Halep (25, 2nd WTA) won the match against Maia (96th WTA) in one hour and 30 minutes.
For this performance, Simona Halep will receive GBP 90,000 and 130 WTA points.
In the next round she will face Shuai Peng (China), who defeated Spanish Carla Suarez Navarro ( 25th seeded, 37th WTA) 6-2, 6-2.
Also Wednesday, in the second round, Ana Bogdan was defeated by French Caroline Garcia (21st seeded) 6-4, 6-3, and Irina Begu lost against Croatian Ana Konjuh 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-3.
On Thursday, in the second round, Sorana Cirstea will face Bethanie Mattek-Sands (US).
