Wine producer ‘Cotnari ‘wants to buy ‘Steaua’ brand
‘Cotnari’ wine producing company wants to purchase the ‘Steaua’ brand, currently in the possession of the Army Sports Club Steaua Bucharest by the final ruling of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court) on December 3, 2014.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, Cotnari motivates its intention to buy the brand because it does not want it to lose value as a result of the dispute between the Army Sports Club Steaua and club owned by Gigi Becali.
“Finding out from the press about the sale of the ‘Steaua’ brand and being interested in the most important symbols of national value, Cotnari is interested to purchase the brand. The company Cotnari does not want that this national symbol loses value following this dispute. Therefore, while undergoing the strong communication campaign “Cotnari – Romanian Unique”, the company decided to take over the Steaua brand,” the release reads.
The wine producer claims that the logo will be placed in the company’s ‘Stefan cel Mare’ Great Hall, along with other national symbols, “being intended to perpetuate the memory of the only Romanian team who won the European Champions Cup.”
The High Court of Cassation and Justice annulled on December 3, 2014, by irrevocable decision, the trademark Steaua Bucharest football group owned by Gigi Becali, in the lawsuit filed against him by the Army Sports Club.
