Women’s Handball: Cristina Neagu – for the fourth time Player of the Year

Romanian handball player Cristina Neagu has been named the Player of the Year by the International Handball Federation (IHF). In the men’s rankings, Mikkel Hansen (Denmark) won the similar title.
Had she avoided the injury in the match against Hungary at the European Championship, Neagu could have said 2018 had been an excellent year: she won the event in Romania with CSM Bucharest, bronze in the Champions League, she was goal getter and chosen for the first team of the competition and she has become the best scorer in the history of the European Championships.
Neagu scored 237 goals, more than two legendary players: Agnes Farkas (Hungary) and Grit Jurack (Germany).
Cristina Neagu has become thus the first player in the world to win the world best player: in 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Neagu: ‘I am very happy’
“I am very happy. I want to thank all those who have stood by me and who voted for me. This matters very much to me, especially that now I am ongoing the recovery after the injury. I have all the reasons to struggle even more and become stronger. I want to thank all my fans and handball supporters for offering me an additional motivation,” Cristina Neagu said on CSM Bucharest’s website.
Cristina Neagu was born on August 26, 1988 in Bucharest and grew up in Ghencea, a district of Bucharest.
