Women’s handball: Jakob Vestergaard takes over as CSM Bucharest coach
Dane Jakob Vestergaard has officially taken over on Monday as coach of women’s handball team CSM Bucharest for a period of two years.
“It’s a great pleasure for me to announce I’ve signed a two-year contract with CSM Bucharest women’s team. I believe in this project. I believe it’s a great chance for me to be the coach of the fresh winner of Champions League. It will be great to work together with top international players and I am sure that together we can do a great job,” Vetergaard said.
He replaces his compatriot Kim Rasmussen at the helm of CSM Bucharest.
For the next season CSM Bucharest aims the national title, Romania’s Cup and to qualify to the Champions League final four stage.
Vestergaard, 41, is winner of Champions League coaching Viborg (2009 and 2010) and was technical manager of CSM Bucharest during 2014-2015.
CSM Bucharest won the Champions League trophy at the beginning of May by defeating Hungarian Gyor ETO 29-26 (13-12, 22-22) after overtime and the 7 meter throws in the final, in Papp Laszlo Arena in Budapest. The Romanian champions produced a huge surprise by this fully deserved success, at the end of a dramatic match.
