Women’s handball: Romania to play in Group D of European Championship against Norway, Germany and Czech Republic
Romania’s women’s national handball team was assigned to Group D (in Brest) of the European Championship 2018 in France (November 29-December 16), and will play against Norway, Germany and the Czech Republic, according to the draw in Paris on Tuesday.
Romania, which participated in all editions of the EC except for 2006, had the best result in 2010 – third place, and in the last edition, in 2016, it ranked 5th.
In Group D, with games in Brest, Norway has 7 European titles, the last two in 2014 and 2016, Germany has a silver medal in 1994 and a 6th place in the EC 2016, while the Czech Republic ranked 10th in the 2016 edition .
Romania will play its first match on December 1 against the Czech Republic, then with Germany (December 3) and Norway (December 5).
The groups according to the draw:
Group A (Nantes): Denmark, Serbia, Sweden, Poland;
Group B (Nancy): France, Montenegro, Russia, Slovenia;
Group C (Montbeliard): Hungary, Spain, Netherlands, Croatia;
Group D (Brest): Norway, Romania, Germany, Czech Republic.
The top three teams in each group qualify to the main groups of six teams each, with matches to be played at Nancy and Nantes. The semi-finals will take place in Paris (December 14), as well as the finals (December 15).
