WTA Finals in Singapore: Halep defeated Bouchard at opening match
Simona Halep gets off WTA Tournament of Champions in the right foot, defeating Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 6-2, 6-3. Halep was a debutant at Singapore tour, standing out to the Canadian player after one hour and nine minutes. The Romanian tennis player won a USD 243,000 prize and 230 WTA points. She is due to get 70 points for the next two matches in the group, regardless of the outcome. “I am very happy to retrieve my game and I am glad to be at this tournament. It means a lot to have may family and my friends here with me. As for the match with Serena I just want to enjoy it, she is the best tennis player in the world, I have nothing to lose”, Halep said, as quoted by www.b365.ro.
In group A also on Monday, top seed Serena Williams defeated her top rival of the season Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-4.
