Romanian tennis player Simona Halep will start the Wimbledon tournament on the 7th WTA position, as she will climb one position in the WTA rankings to be released next Monday. The move takes place although Halep did not play any match since Roland Garros, but Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) lost the first match at Birmingham to Margarita Gasparyan (Russia) 4-6, 6-3, 4-6. Last year Svitolina reached the quarter-finals in Birmingham to Mihaela Buzarnescu and thus loses 100 points.

As Svitolina led Halep by only 4 points in the rankings, the two tennis player will swap positions 7th and 8th.

Simona Halep will play in Eastbourne to prepare for Wimbledon.

Romanian tennis player Mihaela Buzarnescu, currently 42nd in the WTA rankings, was defeated at Birmingham in the first round by Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-4. It is the third consecutive defeat, after Rome and Roland Garros and the Romanian player risks falling out of Top 50, as no less than 11 players could score points this week.

Buzarnescu currently has 1,160 points. She had the best position on August 6, 2018, 20th in the WTA rankings.
