Steaua Bucharest wins Romanian championship

Steaua Bucharest has won its third consecutive Romanian champion title on Thursday evening, after a goalless draw in its away match with CSMS Iasi, while rivals ASA Targu Mures were defeated at home by the already relegated Otelul Galati 2-1 (0-1), in the last leg of Liga I.

Coach Constantin Galca, who won his first champion title with Steaua, has the chance of performing a historic treble for the Bucharest team, if he is to conquer also the Romanian Cup, after winning the championship and the League Cup.

Steaua will play the Romanian Cup Final on Sunday, against Universitatea Cluj, another already relegated team.

ASA Tg. Mures narrowly missed out on its opportunity to become champion for the first time after managing to win only one match of the last four of the season, 1-0 against Petrolul Ploiesti, conceding against Gaz Metan Medias (0-1, away), Astra Giurgiu (1-3, away), as well as to Otelul (1-2, at home).
