Cristina Tarcea, the President of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court) has requested all magistrates of the court that, until September 1, they file the reasoning for all the court sentences, warning that if contrary she will notify the Judicial Inspectorate.
The measure could speed up the judgement of the appeal in the file whereby PSD leader Liviu Dragnea has challenged the sentence of 3 years and 6 months in jail.
“The range of judges’ activity is extreme, very large. This is reason for a not too long delay of editing the reasoning. From my viewpoint, at the ICCJ is impossible to meet the 30-day deadline. Administrative measures have been adopted, the number of files delayed in terms of reasoning is down. I have granted the deadline of September 1 to all, so that they take advantage of the court holiday and to complete the editing of reasoning for the remaining files. If not, they would bear the consequences of the law, I will notify the Judicial Inspectorate, something that I have done in several occasions, it’s nothing new,” Cristina Tarcea said for Realitatea TV private broadcaster.
PSD leader, Liviu Dragnea, was sentenced on June 21 to 3 years and 6 months imprisonment for instigation to abuse of office, the ruling is not final. The final decision is to be made by the ICCJ five judges’ panel.
It remains to be seen is the speeding up of filing the sentences’ reasoning will also speed up a final ruling in Dragnea’s case.
