Supreme Court rejects Liviu Dragnea’s appeal and maintains seizure in Tel Drum file

The magistrates of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court) have rejected on Wednesday the objection filed by Liviu Dragnea against the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) seizure of the Tel Drum file, so the PSD chairman remains with the precautionary measure.

In November last year, the prosecutors laid seizure on RON 127 million (over EUR 27 million) on Liviu Dragnea’s assets in the Tel Drum file. A plot of land of nearly 3,000 meters, an apartment of 80 square meters, two cars and amounts of money in Liviu Dragnea’s accounts are among the seized assets. The investigators are looking for others that belong to the PSD leader, hotnews.ro reports.

Later, the PSD leader challenged the seizure decision, but on Wednesday the magistrates have rejected this objection as inadmissible. The PSD leader’s lawyer said on Wednesday that the arguments put forward aimed a favorable response from OLAF.

The offenses were committed when Liviu Dragnea was Chairman of the Teleorman County Council, the file being opened following a notification to OLAF. In the Tel Drum file, on November 13, the DNA prosecutors officially announced that Dragnea is under criminal investigation for the setting up of an organized criminal group and crimes regarding European funds embezzlement, to favour the company in winning contracts – the prosecutors say.
