Swiss-based technology company Polycontact has chosen Ocna Sibiului, Sibiu county, to open a new sensors factory in Eastern Europe – Polycontact Hermannstadt.
According to a press release, the products developed by the parent company, Polycontact AG, will be manufactured in Romania in a first phase and in the second phase, Polycontact Hermannstadt will act independently on the local market, based on its competences.
Polycontact AG is a hi-tech provider in the automotive industry that develops and manufactures switches and sensors for large German car manufacturers like Daimler, Audi, VW, Porsche and BMW. The wide range of the offered products includes mechanical switches, contactless sensors and complex system solutions.
“Today, most German car manufacturers are among Polycontact customers. Over the past few years, the company has dedicated to an extended application of sensors’ technique in automotive industry. So we developed sensors to detect the seat position, rotation angle sensors, to monitor and control convertibles ceilings, spoilers etc,” Reto Lardelli, Chairman of the Board of Polycontact AG stated.
According to the current plan, Polycontact Hermannstadt is expected to reach capacity limits in 2019, with approximately 300 employees and a turnover of over EUR 10 million.
