TAROM to operate from Suceava Airport as of November 12

Romanian air carrier Tarom will operate regular flights from local airport „Stefan cel Mare” in Salcea, Suceava county (Norteastern Romania) starting with November 12, the Transport Ministry Iulian Matache assured in a press conference, after he attended the upgrading works on Saturday.

However, he did not specify, their frequency, agerpres.ro informs. The airport modernization will be finished in late October, the authorities said.

In his turn, Catalin Nechifor, Suceava County Council President, said the airport will be reopened on October 25 and the first private flight will come on October 27.

Suceava Airport was closed for modernization on January 13, 2014, the works being carried out through a project of RON 105 million from European funds. Through the project with European funding project provided by SOP Transport the runway and beaconing were modernized. Also it was built a new control tower and was prepared the ground for the location of the navigation system.

The overhaul at the airport were made via three projects, one funded by Romatsa, installing control and air traffic equipment, one for upgrading the runway and the flight navigation, financed by the European Union and a project to modernize the air station with County Council funds.

For this project, Suceava Airport obtained on Friday, a grant of RON 100,000 to carry out the feasibility study, following next spring to begin the preparation of the new terminal.
