Tel Drum company, allegedly controlled by PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea, is asking back the Belina Island in a court action. Tel Drum has referred to the Teleorman Tribunal asking it to suspend the County Council’s decision to return the island to the state, namely to the property of the Waters Company. Tel Drum claims that within those five years since the island had been in the county council’s property, no investments have been made.
Tel Drum has sued the Teleorman County Council on January 9, and the first hearing of the trial is due on January 23.
At the end of last year, the Teleorman County Council has decided to give Belina Island and Pavel Channel on the Danube back to the state, namely to the Romanian Waters.
For five years of managing Belina Island and Pavel Channel, the Teleorman County Council had pledged to turn them into recreational areas for the population. However, a government decision signed by the former PM Victor Ponta and assumed by Liviu Dragnea, Belina Island had been rented to Tel Drum.
