The favourable spring weather, the increasing investments in agriculture, the revival of consumption, the price evolution and the development of business relations at regional level could make Romanian agriculture to record the best results in a decade.
They could make agricultural business exceed RON 24.5 billion (approx. EUR 5.44 billion) this year, by over RON 12 billion above the level in 2010, shows an analysis released on Monday by the Dekalb experts and cited by News.ro.
After 2014 in which agricultural business reached RON 20.8 billion, for 2015 preliminary data indicate a business by over RON 1.5 billion higher, of about RON 22.5 billion and in 2016 it is estimated a result of RON 24.5 billion, the source said.
The positive trend in turnover comes amid the increasing number of companies operating in the field to more than 10,000, as compared to 8,067 in 2010, some 9,533 in 2013 and 9,929 in 2014.
The number of employees in Romanian agriculture (officially registered) is forecasted to reach this year over 50,000 people, up from the level of 37,656 employees officially declared in 2010.
According to a European Commission report, the forecast on productivity for Romanian wheat was boosted by 5.5% in April against March to the average level of 4.02 tonnes/ha. This is a historical maximum in the last 26 agricultural seasons. It would be the fourth consecutive wheat harvest that exceeds the threshold of about 7 million tons.
A record production is expected for rape, of 1.3 million tons, up 35% against the volume harvested in the previous season, Romania will become the main rape producer in the Black Sea area.
