The tree-month ROBOR, the average interest rate on which Romanian banks borrow from each other, rose to 1.88% on Wednesday from 1.85% on Tuesday, while the 6-month ROBOR Index went up to 2.04%.
The 6-month ROBOR Index, used especially for the calculation of interest rates on mortgages in national currency, exceeded the 2% threshold last Thursday, a similar level being the last time in January 2015, according to the BNR figures.
In early September the 3-month ROBOR Index was 0.92% and early this year 0.87%. The level reached now is the highest since November 4, 2014.
Although the ROBOR Index is calculated every day, the banks update the index on quarterly basis.
