AmRest takes over Starbucks franchises in Romania and Bulgaria for EUR 16m

The Polish company AmRest Holdings announced on Friday that it has taken over the Starbucks franchise in Romania and Bulgaria, in a deal estimated to EUR 16 million.

“AmRest Holdings has taken over the two companies that operate the Starbucks chains in Romania and Bulgaria. The final price of the transaction will be determined at the conclusion of the deal. The purchase of Starbucks in Romania and Bulgaria networks fits perfectly with our strategy and provides the means to enter the Romanian market, the second largest in Central Europe, with an economy facing increased dynamics,” a statement by AmRest Holdings informs.

At the same time, by taking over the coffeehouses in Bulgaria, the company strengthens its presence and portfolio on this market.

AmRest owns the Starbucks franchise network since 2007 when it opened its first café in Prague, and currently operates 67 cafés in Poland, in the Czech Republic and in Hungary. Following the transaction, the company will operate in addition the 14 cafes in Romania and 5 in Bulgaria.

Last year four cafes were opened in Romania, and this year another 7 units will open, some of them are already in operation.

Starbucks entered the market in Romania in April 2007.
