A new drone from the conflict in Ukraine has landed on Romanian territory, in the Danube Delta. The Ministry of National Defense announced that, on Friday morning, around 5:00 a.m., field teams reported the discovery of a drone crater, in a vegetated area near the right bank of the Chilia Arm, approximately 3 km west of Plauru.
On Wednesday, October 11, Russian forces continued their attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure, near the border between Ukraine and Romania.
The Ministry of National Defense monitored the air situation in the areas of responsibility in real time. As a result of the detection of groups of drones heading towards Ukrainian ports, MApN activated Air Police procedures and notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, starting at 11.20 p.m., regarding the specific areas in Tulcea and Galati counties, located in the vicinity , with the potential to be affected by the risks associated with this situation. The air pre-alert status in these areas ended at 01:40 on October 12.
Based on the information received from the Border Police, regarding a possible impact on the territory of Romania, in the vicinity of Plauru, Tulcea County, MApN teams, in cooperation with forces and means from other institutions of the National Defense System, public order and national security, they traveled to the area to investigate the situation. Around 5:00 a.m., field teams reported the discovery of a drone crater, with a possible explosion on impact, in a vegetated area near the right bank of the Chilia Arm, approximately 3 km west of Plauru town. Measures were taken to secure the area and the competent structures were notified to collect evidence and conduct investigations, according to procedures.
“The Ministry of National Defense strongly condemns the attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against some objectives and elements of civil infrastructure in the Ukrainian ports on the Danube. These attacks are unjustified and in serious contradiction with the rules of international humanitarian law. Also, MApN remains in permanent contact with the allied structures, which are informed in real time about the situation generated by these attacks,”, says a MApN press release.
