Over 2.5 tons of apricots and nectarines from Turkey had exceeded the maximum permissible level of kresoxim-metyl fungicide, following the inspections conducted by the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) during May 5-11, a press release from the institution informs.
“The data centralized by the specialized structures within the Authority show that in the mentioned period were recorded exceeding pesticide residues in the samples of fruits, apricots and nectarines imported from Turkey. In the first case, we refer to a quantity of 250 kg of apricots, where the analysis showed an excess of kresoxim-metyl fungicide. The ANSVSA inspectors found that 171 kg of this batch had been sold. The remaining amount of fruit that was found in a storage unit was destroyed. Regarding the nectarines, samples were taken from a batch amounting to 2,280 kg. The analysis results showed the limit for the same fungicide was exceeded,” ANSVSA informs.
The Authority notes that, both for the sample taken from the consignment of apricots and for nectarines, the exceeded levels will not cause acute toxic effects if eaten occasionally, but can affect health following consumption of large amounts of contaminated products.
Currently, the company who traded the fruits is conducting the withdrawal under the supervision of the ANSVSA inspectors.
During May 5-11 some 346 transports of fruit and vegetables from third countries were checked, from which 46 samples were taken.
