Fiat Chrysler Automobiles eyes collaboration with the Romanian defence industry in regard to producing 4×4 military vehicles Jeep J8, the national company ROMARM has announced. The plant envisaged is Uzina Mecanica Bucharest and the authorities announced that the range of products could be extended to other vehicles necessary for the defence and security system.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Romanian authorities in the national defence field will present on Tuesday, in Bucharest, the details of the cooperation related to the 4×4 military vehicles Jeep J8.
“In the context of needing to equip the armed forces with 4×4 vehicles, the national defence industry is trying to provide solutions so that these vehicles have a partial integration in Romania, an opportunity that would bring numerous economic and strategic benefits to our country,” Romarm informs in a press release remitted to HotNews.ro.
“From the small range of world producers, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the company owning the Jeep brand, has expressed interest to partner with the national industry in terms of military vehicles 4×4 Jeep J8, the factory envisaged being Uzina Mecanica Bucharest, currently facing unprecedented financial difficulties. The project is a complex one, the range of products could be extended to other vehicles necessary for the defence system, for public order and for national security,” reads the mentioned press release.
Jeep J8 is a 4×4 military vehicle based on the Jeep Wrangler platform introduced in 2007. The vehicle in its original format is powered by a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that develops 194 horsepower and torque of 460 Nm. The model can be delivered in different configurations and enables the installation of arms and armour.
In Israel is known under the name AIL Storm and is equipping the Israeli Defence Forces.
