INS: Inflation up to 8.4%

The annual inflation rate in January 2022 compared to January 2021 is 8.4%, the National Institute of Statistics announced on Monday.

Consumer prices were up 1.5% in January 2022 from December 2021, while the average consumer price rate over the last 12 months (January 2022-February 2021) as compared to the previous 12 months (January 2021-February 2020) is 5.5%, INS also says.

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) expects inflation to rise by 11% between April and June, after the expiration of measures to cap and offset gas and electricity bills. The price increases will continue in the first months of summer, when inflation will remain above 10%, the NBR estimates.
