Former Minister of Finance, Ioana Petrescu, will replace Mihai Tanasescu as Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), digi24.ro reports.
Romania sent the proposal that Ioana Petrescu should be our country’s representative to the institution, after the Prime Minister discussed the move, including at the Cotroceni Palace. Romania is under pressure to withdraw Mihai Tanasescu from the office of Vice-President after his name was mentioned in the Microsoft file. Tanasescu is charged of receiving bribes of USD 90,000.
Mihai Tanasescu has reached the European Investment Bank in 2012, when it was Romania’s turn to hold this position for a four-year term.
Basically, Ioana Petrescu takes over the office for only a year. The salary of a EIB Vice-President exceeds EUR 20,000 per month.

Economist Ioana Petrescu, born in 1980, has served as Finance Minister between March and December 2014. She received a B.A in economics and mathematics from Wellesley College, and later a Ph.D in economics from Harvard University.

Petrescu worked as an N.R.I. Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, DC, before she became an assistant professor at the University of Maryland. Taking a two-year leave from teaching, she was named in the second half of 2013 a state counselor for economic affairs by Romanian prime-minister Victor Ponta.
