“The subway will reach Otopeni Airport (Henri Coanda Airport – our note) in 2021, but until then we have found an alternative connection by rail between Gara de Nord and the Henri Coanda Airport that will be operational as of this year and the distance will be covered in 23 minutes,” Transport Minister Dan Costescu has announced.

“According to the current programme, the subway will be ready in 2021,” Dan Costescu said.

In this context, the Minister announced that an alternative was found, namely a rail route connecting the North Station area to Otopeni Airport.

“We’ll repair the bridge in Mogosoaia, the trains will not bypass Chitila and will go directly to the airport. This means that, out of almost 30 kilometres we will travel only 22 km to the airport without making any investment, without huge costs,” Costescu said.

According to the minister, after rail repairs, the connection will operate daily, and the distance will be covered in 23 minutes, not in 48 minutes as it is done currently.

“During the championship (EURO 2020 – our note) there 48 trains will operate every day, so it can cover the demand from the airport to Gara de Nord,” the minister said.
