The exchange rate level released by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) on Monday reveals a new record low for the national currency against the European Currency: RON 4.6656 per EUR, for the first time the RON goes beyond the 4.66 units threshold.
On the interbank market, the EUR varied on Monday between RON 4.6654 and RON 4.6670.
The USD climbed to RON 3.8059 (up from RON 3.7984 on Friday), the CHF reached RON 3.9621 (down from RON 3.9727 on Friday), whereas the GBP climbed to RON 5.2916 (up from RON 5.2814 last Friday).
In another development, the 3-months ROBOR Index has decreased slightly on Monday to 1.98%, down from 1.99% on Friday.
The 6-months ROBOR Index has also fallen to 2.22% (down from 2.23%).
The 9-months ROBOR Index stood at 2.32%.
The depreciation of the national currency against the European currency occurs in the context of political turbulence and on the background of higher trade balance deficit and of the balance of payment deficit.
