Trade deficit up by 28 pc in 9 months, imports exceeding exports by EUR 5.5bn

Romania exported in the first nine months goods worth EUR 40.9 billion, while imports totalled EUR 46.4 billion, thus the trade deficit was of EUR 5.53 billion, up by 28.6% as compared the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
In the first three quarters of last year, the trade deficit was of EUR 4.3 billion.
In September, FOB exports peaked to EUR 4.9 billion, CIF imports amounted to EUR 5.6 billion, resulting in a deficit of EUR 741.6 million, the INS release reads.
As compared to August, exports increased by 25.4% and imports by 18.4%.

The value of intra-Community trade (Intra-UE28) was in the first nine months EUR 30.03 billion for shipments and of EUR 35.63 billion for incomings, representing 73.4% of total exports and 76.7% of total imports.
Extra-Community trade (Extra-UE28) amounted to about EUR 10.88 billion of exports and approximately EUR 10.82 billion of imports, accounting for 26.6% of total exports and 23.3% of imports.
In the structure of exports and imports, machinery and transport equipment sector have a share of 44% in exports and 36.6% in imports and other manufactured goods represent 32.9% of exports and 31.3% of imports.
