The unemployment rate was of 6.6% in Q4 2015. The highest unemployment rate of 21.8% was recorded among young people (15-24 years) according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS) on Wednesday.
By gender, the spread between the two unemployment rates was of 1.3 percentage points (7.2% for men against 5.9% for women), and by residence of 0.3 percentage points (6.5 % in urban areas compared to 6.8% for rural areas).
The employment rate of the working age population (15-64 years) was of 61.4%, down by 1.8 percentage points against the previous quarter, while the youth employment rate (15-24 years) was of 23.5%.
Romania’s active population was of 9.085 million, of which 8.483 million people were employed and 602,000 people were unemployed.
