Weather forecasters have issued a Code Orange alert for heavy rainfall in 12 counties in northern and central Romania, valid as of Friday, 15:00hr until Saturday morning, at 06:00hr.
It will heavily rain in the northern half of Moldavia, the Eastern Carpathians region, locally in Maramures and southeastern Transylvania, with water quantity risking to reach up to 60-70 liters per square meter.
19 counties are already under Code Yellow warning for torrential rain on Friday. Maramureş, Bistriţa-Năsăud, Suceava, Botoşani, Iaşi, Neamţ, Harghita, Mureş, Bacău, Covasna, Vrancea, Buzău, Prahova, Braşov, Dâmboviţa, Argeş, Vâlcea, Gorj and Mehedinţi counties are under the Code Yellow alert until Friday night.
It will also consistently rain in most part of Moldavia, locally in eastern and southeastern Transylvania, Maramures and northern Muntenia and Oltenia.
Rains will persist in most of the regions until Saturday.
On the other hand, torrential rain has already played havoc in some counties. Hundreds of flooded households, people isolated have been reported in Suceava, Vrancea or Teleorman,
Four people are isolated by floods in Suceava and two house attachments have burnt down after being hit by lightning. Tens of households gave been flooded.
In Teleorman, hundreds of houses and households have been flooded and several roads have been affected. A county road had been closed due to erosion.
70 families in Jitia village in Vrancea county are also isolated. After the flood has ripped off the bridge enabling access to the locality. 15 localities in Vrancea have been affected by floods in Vrancea.
