Bucharest, the travel destination with the highest development potential in Europe
For the second year in a row, Bucharest ranks first among the growing potential travel destinations in Europe, according to the Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index 2019.
The survey says that Romania’s Capital has a score la 10.3% on the development potential among European cities. The study also shows that 1.4 million tourists resorted to accommodation in Bucharest in the past year, while the average sum spent per day reached USD 105, however on decline compared to last year, when the sum stood at USD 200/day.
The ranking looks like: Lisbon (no.2 in the top), Tel Aviv (ranked third), followed by Moscow, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Budapest, Santa Cruz de la Palma, Copenhagen and Istanbul.
Bucharest was the European destination posting the highest rise on overnight visitors in the previous Mastercard surveys, outranking cities such as Lisbon, Berlin or Amsterdam.
This year, Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index reveals Bangkok as the No. 1 city for the fourth consecutive year while Paris overtakes London for the No. 2 spot.
