28930284Trips here are highly recommended in the dry summer months, when the river flow doesn’t exceed a brook’s level, because the gorges are accessible only by trail. The reserve is near the Crivadiei feudal tower monument. Crivadia Tower is located near the Crivadia village on the road to Banita, Hunedoara County. The tower was a customs point in the sixteenth century on the road connecting Transylvania to Oltenia through Vulcan. It was built of limestone extracted from the surroundings, and its walls still reach sometimes a highly appreciated altitude. The tower is circular with a 13m diameter and plastered on the outside. The entrance was located on the north side at 2 meters from the surface and the access was probably made using a ladder.

Although it has the appearance of a dungeon, Crivadia Tower, dates from an actually later period, and its main purpose was to observe and control the border passageways. The building was erected in the third decade of the sixteenth century, probably after 1528.

This area is also known for adventurers, passionate for canyoning and speleology.
