The country, named by Lonely Planet as the destination with the best value for money, had a record number of visitors in 2023. To continue this trend this year, openings of historical sites and new resorts are planned.

Unforgettable adventures, exciting experiences and soothing sun: Egypt offers something special for all Romanian travelers this winter. The sunny country on the Nile proves to be a warm, fascinating and affordable holiday destination.

Unique experiences and adventures

At a time when travel is not just about ticking off a destination but is closely linked to the associated experiences, the land of the pharaohs, pyramids and the Nile Delta is a destination worth exploring, whether tourists are looking for immersive urban experiences in Cairo and Alexandria, customized river cruises, unique desert adventures, or exploring the snorkeling and diving sites of the Red Sea.

Tourism has changed in recent years. More and more Romanian travelers come to Egypt because the country offers them diverse and unique experiences and they feel safe here. Our promise is to provide each guest with a journey that allows them to relax and unwind, as well as discover our rich culture,” said Ahmed Issa, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. “Last year we had a large wave of visitors in the cold months, and this year we expect thousands of Romanian tourists to cross our threshold again to avoid the winter,” he adds.

A record year for tourism

According to the country’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, more than seven million tourists visited Egypt in the first half of 2023. The country expects to attract 15 million tourists this year. Currently, Egypt is recognized as one of the safest travel destinations in the world.

Consistent investment in popular tourist destinations

To improve the visitor experience and attract even more tourists, substantial investments have been made in Egyptian destinations, including the restoration and development of archaeological sites and the opening of new museums and hotels. Among the most important projects are the reopening of the Greco-Roman Museum in Alexandria, the restoration of the Great Hypostyle Hall in Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings, and the opening of the new Great Egyptian Museum in early 2024 near Cairo.

Egypt is connected to many major European cities by direct flights, but also by new flight connections, so it can now be accessed faster and more economically than ever before. The recently introduced five-year multiple-entry visa, particularly attractive holiday packages and the low cost of living are also of high interest.

Various offers for all types of Romanian travelers

Whether they want to explore the Pyramids of Giza near Cairo, the iconic Sphinx or the legendary Luxor Temple, attend the magical Abu Simbel Sun Festival in Aswan or walk the long beaches with fine white sand, discover the coral reefs from the Red Sea, Egypt is the holiday destination that no Romanian traveler should miss. This is a popular location especially for families who want an all-inclusive stay at a luxury resort, but also for adventurous solo travelers or remote workers who want an affordable retreat in which they can spend more time.

Sustainability is becoming more and more important

With a growing focus on sustainability, Egypt offers plenty of opportunities for those looking for eco-friendly ways to connect with nature, discover cultural and historical heritage, or simply meet other people. For example, many tour operators offer packages that include stays in eco-friendly accommodations that support local businesses. The country is also home to numerous eco-hostels, including Eco Nubia on Bigeh Island, which has become an internationally renowned attraction recognized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

Moreover, destinations such as Cairo and various resorts on the Red Sea coast between El Gouna and Marsa Alam are involved in eco-certification programs. Sharm el-Sheikh was recently named the best sustainable tourism city by the Arab Union for Tourism Media (AUTM).
