Romanians traveled over 623 million kilometers in 2023
2023 is the year that saw the entire world return to travel: either because they wanted the experiences it offers, or as revenge travel, or just for fun, according to a report conducted by a travel-tech company.
Compared to 2019, 192% more Romanians traveled in 2023 – an increase of 29% compared to last year, as well. Their interest in travel was big, too: Romanians made over 138 million searches on the platform.
The most popular destinations were Italy, the UK, Spain, Germany and France, while the most visited cities were London, Milan, Rome, Brussels and Paris. However, they saw a lot more of the world: 933 cities in 166 countries. On the other hand, Romania was visited by 169 nationalities this year.
Some Romanians traveled more than others: one user made 120 bookings alone, most of them from Cluj-Napoca to Dortmund. Another took a really long trip, that included 12 segments, flying from Málaga and back, going through Istanbul, Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur, Denpasar, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo and Bahrain Island.
Romanians booked 36K travel hacks, making 24.4 million searches to “Anywhere” and 45 million searches for travels “Anytime”. The most popular booking time for Romanians in 2023 was Monday at 6 PM.
All in all, 2023 meant over 623 million kilometers traveled by Romanians all over the world, the equivalent of over 15000 trips around the Earth.
