After more than 24 years from the 1989 revolution, one of Ceausescu’s former vacation properties is now a major attraction for tourists. Romanian and foreign tourists are equally drawn into the story of the house but also into the beautiful scenery.  Most of all, the building was built by Mihail Moruzov, founder of the Secret Intelligence Service, forerunner of today’s SRI. One can find Ceausescu’s protocol villa on his way to Mineri, outside Tulcea.

‘We can’t tell exactly what role he played in the political life. Some Romanian and German archives were opened, but, as it is a Secret Service, most of the questions will be unanswered’, according to historian, Delia Cornea, quoted by Digi 24.

What we do know for sure is that Mozurov was fond of conspiracies and secrets but also deeply in love with The Danube Delta. So he built a conspiratorial house where secret meetings between agent and spies took place, ‘far from prying eyes’ as administrator Petre Badea said . After the change of political system, the house became part of the Communist Party’s patrimony. Later on, Ceausescu used it as a guest house. According to the administrator, the ex-dictator only came here three times, with only one overnight stay.

In 1989, the house went into Tulcea Agricultural High School’ Administration, since orchards and flowers were planted there. Soon after that the complex was taken over by the County Council who let it out on lease to a business man. His investments have placed the house in the tourist circuit.

The villa has a terrace with 120 seats but also a lounge with a capacity of 40 people, ideal for organizing private events. There are also 2 double rooms, one apartment and a restaurant.

Those who want to provide their own meal can go fishing in the Delta channels, right from the terrace. All in all the view is spectacular, inviting tourists to unforgettable experiences.
