Study: Romanians prefer European capitals for the upcoming long weekend
According to a study conducted by a travel-tech company, reviewing the Romanians’ traveling behavior during the long weekend of 11th and 14th of August, Romanians are not planning far in advance when booking city breaks, and their travel choices for long weekends offer great insights. Data reveals that Romanians rank among the nationalities that tend to book with less lead time in general. More than half of the reservations made for the long weekend in August using the travel platform were made in July, accounting for 54% of the total. Additionally, 22% of reservations were made in June, followed by 11.7% in May, and almost 3% in April.
Apparently, Romanians are eager to explore big cities in Western Europe during their long weekend, and not beach destinations. Popular cities among Romanians for this long weekend in August are Milan, London, Rome, Brussels, and Paris. The top origin airports for travelers during this period are Henri Coandă International, Cluj International, Iasi International, Suceava International, and Timisoara International. By all indications, the people from the Moldova region like to travel.
However, it appears that Romanians are leveraging the August long weekend as a starting point for extended European vacations. Most of them are departing on the 11th of August, and their stays are exceeding the long weekend duration. Notably, 42% of Romanians booking return trips have planned vacations lasting from 1 to 2 weeks, while 29% have booked holidays spanning 4 to 6 days. In contrast, only 18% have opted for stays of less than 3 days, aligning with the duration of the long weekend. Moreover, out of the total number of return bookings, 8% booked their trip for 2 to 3 weeks and 3% for 3 weeks to 2 months.
