If you are tired of the crowded Romanian mountains resorts, you can enjoy a reclusive place at the heart of the Buzau Mountains. Hadar Nature Resort is combining nature’s stillness with up-to-date accommodation.

Do you know when you see in some movies a tinny little house from the outside and when you come inside it is a really large palace? The same goes for the Hadar Nature Resort, only it is right the opposite. When you head for it on the narrow forest path on DN 10, in the Buzau Mountains (near Siriu Lake), between Buzau and Brasov, you couldn’t possibly imagine you will find such a wide property and roomy chalet hidden at the end of the bypath in the firry thicket.

However, it’s no wonder the place is practically a hideaway, as it used to be the hunting lodge of Nicolae Ceausescu, where the former communist dictator and his entourage used to come only by helicopter. All the past history was left behind anyway, the large domain only keeping its peace and quiet of the old times and the surrounding area remained as hunting-friendly as ever. Yet, apart from nature’s fresh air, absolute calmness, the resort is offering modern accommodation and high standard services, including pool, tennis court, playground for children and a tree-house for romantic encounters.

Three counties are meeting only few kilometers away from the resort, Buzau, Brasov and Covasna, whose sights are ready to be discovered if you plan to go hiking. For the resorts’ guests who just want to relax and target quick trips in the neighborhood, sights such as Aurochs Reservation, Urlatoarea waterfall in Vama Buzaului and Sita Buzaului monastery are quite handy.

“The location of Hadar Nature Resort, or Cabana Hadaragu, as it used to be called, was initially chosen by the experts of the day for Ceausescu’s hunting lodge. The area is as gorgeous as it is authentic, and it’s great for unwinding and concentrating on the better things in life, whether you’re here with your family or your team. In 1998, the property – which includes the villa, 8 acres of gardens and 148 acres of forests, was taken over by our family and continuously developed for the better part of 15 years,” Oana Toma co-owner and marketing manager of Hadar Resort told “The Romania Journal”.piscina hadarweb_C_Hladi-7975web_C_Hladi-8244

Questioned about their investment so far and if they plan further expenditures, Oana said the investment is hard to quantify as it was made over a number of years, and is still ongoing. “We always look out for opportunities that spring from the feedback that we receive from clients and agencies. For example, in December we will finish the revamping of most of our rooms and conference space, we actually created our conference room as a result of demands from our clients. We also have great demand for weddings of 70 to 110 guests and we hope we will be soon able to host these in addition to the maximum 50 guest ones we are organizing at the moment,” she also pointed out.

The villa has 12 rooms of different sizes (some of them junior and senior suites featuring fireplaces and balconies), a reception area, a living room for reading and watching movies, a conference room and a restaurant fit for 50 guests. The property, which can be hired exclusively, also features a trout farm, tennis court, a children’s playground, an outdoor heated pool, a space dedicated to entertainment (pool, ping-pong, darts, video games), a tree-house perfect for romantic dinners and the huge gardens, where guests can walk around, do yoga or read.

“The food is entirely cooked on site in our professional kitchen, with fresh ingredients, usually from our own farms or sourced from our trustworthy partners. We offer mainly traditional Romanian and regional food, with menus available to choose from for events that include also more international options. We pair our courses with a finely curated wine list that promotes Romanian options,” Oana Toma said.

The villa provided a closed circuit service until about two years ago, but Hadar has been opened reservations in May 2013, ‘for all those who want to become part of our story’, as the resort co-owner put it. She says they are very lucky to have a high take-up year-round, in the summer tourists preferring holiday stays, while the rest of the year corporate businesses choosing it as a destination for meeting, training, workshops and team building.

“The uniqueness of the property, and the distance from the masses of Valea Prahovei, while still being close to Bucharest made it an instant success. We put together a great team and all the guests loved the personal touch that a family business brings. We made sure that we made everyone’s stay that little bit special with surprises and great service. We have operated at almost full capacity during the weekends throughout the year, and this summer has been overwhelming. Already from the middle of July we had been fully booked through mid-September. We have also bookings for 2015 for weddings and personal events. The majority of events we host in winter and fall are corporate events – product launches, team-building get-togheters and incentive events,” Oana Toma told us.

As for the businessmen, they come here for privacy that they can count on and flexible event options. “We are now looking forward to developing more revenue-earning possibilities during the week, a well-known problem for Romanian tourism. Even corporate affairs take place mostly during the weekends so that no business days are wasted”, Oana Toma explained.

The resort’s guests have been mostly Romanian so far, but the its current target is to attract foreign tourists. “We are a great option for expats and foreign tourists because we speak multiple languages, are flexible on meals (kosher, halal, etc) and can help with organizing their entire trip in the area. Those looking for a quiet time and discovering a new area of Romania will be happy to have discovered Hadar”, the marketing manager said.

With the new winter season ahead, Hadar resort is definitely an option also for a white quiet stay. “Christmas and New Year’s Eve at Hadar is truly magical – imagine a Christmas tree 30 meters tall! That’s how big ours are, as we decorate the gardens with lights, as well as the interiors. We do special menus that include game and mulled wine, and play holiday music while the candles and fireplaces are lit. Our Christmas and NYE packages were for the entire villa, and they have been reserved very early on by guests who were eager to return,” Oana Toma concluded. iarna hadar
