Have you ever considered going West up to Cluj-Napoca searching for an oasis of relaxation and pure health while exploring the depth of the Planet Earth? Then maybe you remember taking into account Salina Turda as a possible destination.

The salt mine in Turda is now a veritable history museum of salt mining. The excellent state of preservation of mining makes it an incredibly astonishing underground place, all dressed in salt, which additionally offers a series of indoors activities.

The increasing number of tourists arriving from distant geographical areas to visit the mine is a confirmation of interest and historical value. Salina can be considered an underground town with all the usual facilities. Since the very beginning, namely since it has been restored and modernized, it has managed to attract annually thousands of autochthonous and foreign tourists. A numerous number of people are going there for therapy and for the salt’s varied peculiarities.

Salina Turda is split into various spaces, galleries and mines, among which Rudolf, Ghizela, Terezia and Iosif mines. As already mentioned, indoors one can find from playgrounds to tennis and basketball courts. The tourists are welcome even to spend the night in the underground town, accommodation being available upon request. Of course, as any other city, though being an underground one, Salina Turda is proud to host different cultural events such as jazz concerts or even theater plays. As a matter of fact, the summer of 2014 has been a very active one for the artificially illuminated city: on August 24 the Rudolf amphitheater hosted a concert of the 60+ orchestra where the folk lovers but also the tourists who just wanted to be amazed by the special acoustic of the Rudolf mine could enjoy their moment. Not to mention the traditional music concerts held on July 26-27 in Turda Salt Mine, a genuine folkloric show where assembles from Greece and from different areas of our country (e.g. Galati, Jibou, Botosani, Turda) performed various numbers in the applauses of the audience.

Among other cultural activities worthwhile to be recalled having taken place at Salina Turda at the end of August there is the shooting of the documentary titled “The fascination of the surrounding world”, produced by Japan national TV station NHK. Romanian folklore was the main theme of the documentary . At the beginning of September, the shooting of some sequences of the American movie “Nameless”, directed by Bryan Thurman and Luis Esteban, took place in Rudolf mine, at 120 meters underground, the movie being a psychological thriller to be screened in cinemas in 2015.

The most recent novelty of Salina Turda is that starting August 20, all tourists have the possibility to download a free “audio-guide” in three different languages: Romanian, English and Hungarian.

Enjoy the salted air, peace and top quality environment!
