What are the best hidden Christmas markets in Europe?
As the holiday season approaches, a travel-tech company, suggests exploring lesser-known Christmas markets in Europe for a unique festive experience. Consider a trip to Bruges, near Brussels, for one of Europe’s prettiest cities with markets running from November 24th to January 7th. Another option is Warsaw, where affordable one-way tickets from Bucharest start at 182 lei, or Strasbourg, known for its medieval Christmas market focusing on Alsatian cuisine. Belfast offers a multicultural Christmas market opening on November 18th, and Vienna, a top winter destination for Romanians, boasts over a dozen markets
With Brussels being of Romanians’ preferred travel destinations all year-round, visiting nearby Bruges could be a nice change of scenery, as it is regarded as one of Europe’s prettiest cities. The Christmas markets run from November 24th to January 7th, one in the Main Square, with traditionally Christmassy offerings, and the other, on Simon Stevinplein, focuses on products and crafts from local creators.
An affordable option for a quick Christmas shopping spree, or just a seasonal getaway, is Warsaw, where the Christmas markets open on November 25th. Very different in their approach and vibe, the two markets in the Polish capital are best discovered on foot.
Probably not the city to be top of mind when thinking of Christmas, but Strasbourg’s festive market has existed since the Middle Ages, and has a strong focus on Alsatian cuisine and drinks. The market opens on November 24th, and lasts just one month, up until Christmas Eve.
Belfast’s Christmas market is one of the most multicultural in Europe, particularly when it comes to food and drinks, and is housed in more than 100 stalls in front of the city hall. The Christmas market opens on November 18th, and ends on December 23rd, and is another affordable option for Romanians.
Vienna is one of Romanians’ top 10 favorite destinations for winter travels, so naturally the Austrian capital, although already famous, deserves an honorable mention. More than a dozen of Christmas markets are open throughout November and December, are strategically placed in the most enticing parts of the city, having something to offer for every type of traveler.
