Two „Swan Lake” performances in Bucharest this winter

The classical ballet „Swan Lake” tops the spectators’ preferences this year, so the performance will be staged twice in Romania’s capital, at the National Theatre in Bucharest (TNB) on December 12.

The first performance was scheduled at 5 p.m., while the second one at 8 p.m.

The „Swan Lake” will be staged by the prestigious classic ballet company in St. Petersburg, run by renowned first dancer and choreographer, Andrey Batalov. The well-known story of the princesses turned into swans will reach 11 cities in Romania this winter: the National Opera of Timisoara on November 20, Satu Mare on December 8, Oradea on December 9, Pitesti on December 10, Ramnicu Valcea on December 11, Bucharest on December 12, Brasov on December 14, Iasi on December 15, Bacau on December 16, Constanta on December 17 and the National Theatre in Craiova on December 18.

The “Swan Lake” is based on the Tchaikovsky’s homonym work. The premiere of the ballet took place in 1877 on the stage of the Bolshoy Theatre in Moscow. The story is focused on princess Odette, cursed by wicked sorcerer Rothbart and turned into swan. Only love can cats the spell…

Andrey Batalov graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in 1992. He belongs to a rare breed of virtuoso dancers. His extraordinary technique allows to put him on par with the legendary ballet dancers of the past and present from Vestris and Nijinsky to Baryshnikov and Julio Bocca. He owns a unique collection of awards from different international ballet competitions.  He was a gold medal winner at the International Ballet Competition in Nagoya (Japan, 1996) and in Paris (1997). He won 2nd prize at the International Rudolf Nureyev Ballet Competition in Budapest (1996), 1st prize and Mikhail Baryshnikov Prize at the Arabesque-96 Open Ballet Competition in Perm (1996) and Grand Prix at the International Ballet Competition in Moscow (1997).

The company “Saint-Petersburg Classical Ballet of Andrey Batalov” was founded by Batalov in 2014.

The company’s repertoire combines masterpieces of classical ballet: “Swan Lake”, “Giselle”, “Don Quixote”, “The Nutcracker,” “Les Sylphides”, and contemporary choreography – Alexei Miroshnichenko, Emil Faski and others. The guest soloists will include St. Petersburg ballet stars like Oksana Bondareva, Yevgeny Ivanchenko, Leonid Sarafanov.

The classical ballet company from St. Petersburg will also bring in Bucharest this winter the beautiful story of the Nutcracker.
