During January – April 2017, Romania’s gas imports reached 542,100 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), with 251,1 percent (387,700 toe) more than the similar period of 2016, National Institute of Statistics (INS) data show.

Domestic gas production in the first four months of this year totaled 2.78 million toe, 2.3 percent (63,500 toe) over the same period last year.

According to the Romania’s Energy Strategy, the annual gas output is expected to fall slightly to an average of 9-10 billion cubic meters for the 2016-2030 period.

The document points out that gas production will decrease after reaching a new peak of 132 TWh in 2025 due to Black Sea production, at 96 TWh in 2030 and 65 TWh in 2050.

The low price scenarios foresee a drop to zero in gas production as of 2045.
