University Year starts: PM Dancila in Craiova, says development should be built on two pillars – health and education

The University Year starts on Monday with ceremonies countrywide. President Klaus Iohannis attends the opening ceremonies in Iasi. In turn, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila has attended the festivities in Craiova, at the Faculty of Medicine.

The University of Craiova hosts more than 20,000 students.

“Romanian medical school is an elite one and this faculty is one of the most appreciated institutions in the country. (…) Our development as society should be built on two pillars: health and education. As Prime Minister, I have approached health and education as priorities, both by the funds allocated and by the promoted projects and policies. The medical sector faces problems that have accumulated during the past years, related to hospitals infrastructure, insufficient funds and human resources and to mentalities. This is why the current ruling coalition and the Government are investing in the health system. We value the doctors’ skills and dedication and their work should be rewarded,” PM Viorica Dancila said on Monday.

The event was attended by the academic community in Craiova and by representatives of the socio-economic environment.

The head of government is expected to pay visits, later in the day, to the Ford plant and to the Airplane Factory in Craiova.
