Moments of panic on Sunday evening on a Blue Air flight that took off from Cluj Napoca for Bucharest. Immediately after taking off, an airplane engine malfunctioned and the plane had to return, stiri.tvr.ro informs.
The passengers say that the aircraft started to shake and they heard a loud noise. After 30 minutes of flight, the captain announced that they had an engine problem and that they would land back in Cluj Napoca.
On the runway, when landing, the plane was awaited by fire engines.
The passengers were disembarked and waited until after midnight, when they took off for Bucharest aboard another aircraft.
Later, the airline informed that the return to Cluj Napoca Airport was decided by the pilots as a result of a situation created by the ‘intake of foreign debris by an engine on takeoff’.
“The Blue Air 0B3101 aircraft, which took off on the flight scheduled from Cluj-Napoca International Airport on Sunday, April 1, at 21.41h, heading to Otopeni Airport, returned to Cluj Airport at 22.25h. The captain decided, as an additional safety measure, to return to Cluj airport after a situation signalled in one of the engines. As seen in the photo, the engine is clearly affected by the intake of foreign object debris (FOD) during takeoff,” the statement reads.
“Our crew did not ask for assistance on landing, the return to the runway was normal, and at no time of flight the safety of Blue Air passengers was at risk,” the company’s representatives said.
