The National Meteorology Administration (ANM) has issued a special weather forecast on Monday for Bucharest, of rain that turns into snow, in force as of Monday at 12.00h until Tuesday at 12.00h, following that the snow layer to reach about 8 centimetres.
The weather will be overcast, temporary rain on Monday that will turn into sleet and snowfall. The snow layer will reach at the end of the interval 5-8 cm, moderate wind expected, ANM informs.
Highs of 1-2 degrees Celsius and lows of -1C.
Romania is still under a weather alert for snowfall, rainfall, sleet and glazed frost, with a code orange warning being issued for eight counties. It is still snowing heavily here, while the blizzard has seized the mountain areas, with wind gusts reaching 70 km/h.
Trains with hundreds of passengers have been blocked in the snow in Arad, Caras-Severin and Gorj counties, while the Timisoara – Bucharest train with 200 people on board has been blocked in Orsova for 7 hours on Sunday. Curtici-Bucharest train, with 60 passengers aboard is halted near Varadia. Budapest-Bucharest train, 100 people onboard is stopped in Arad county. Other trains reported huge delays.
Eight passenger cars in ten of the Timisoara-Bucharest train were blocked in a tunnel, as several trees had fallen on the rail road due to the blizzard and bad weather.
Resigning Transports minister Lucian Sova said the problem had been caused by CFR Infrastructure, which had not cut the trees in due time.
On the other hand, tens of localities have run out of electricity due to the heavy snowfall, with tens of thousands of families being affected. Over 150 trees and 15 poles have been downed by wind and snow, while 40 cars have been blocked in the snow banks in the past 24 hours in those counties affected by the bad weather.
Tens of accidents with victims have occurred in the affected areas.
O person died and other four have been injured in a car crash on DN 1 C in Coplean locality, Cluj county, after a vehicle has got on a truck.
Two cars and two tow minivans have collided on Avrig town’s ring road on Sunday in Sibiu county. The accident occurred after a car has passed and has gone sideways. Tens people have been injured.
Five other people have been injured in Vrancea county following a car crash on DN 2 on Sunday morning. The driver of a car carrying four people seems to have gone asleep while driving and has collided with a bus that was coming the other way. One person was trapped in the car.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the weather has played havoc in Arad, Bihor, Buzău, Caraş-Severin, Covasna, Dâmboviţa, Dolj, Hunedoara, Ialomiţa, Ilfov, Mehedinţi, Olt, Prahova, Teleorman, Timiş şi Tulcea, but also in the Capital.
In Timis county, currently under code orange for heavy snowfall, 60 localities had no electricity on Sunday morning, with 40, 000 customers affected.
15,000 families in 20 villages in Buzau county also had no electricity, while in Vrancea, about 1,000 households were encountering the same problems, due to the fallen branches downed by the strong wind gusts.
Snowfall, rainfall or mixed falls are still on today, in most part of the country. Rains will prevail in Dobruja, Muntenia and eastern Oltenia, while mixed falls will seize Moldavia and Transylvania. It will snow in the rest of the country. Glazed frost will be present in northern and northeastern Muntenia, locally in Moldavia and on a few areas in Transylvania and Oltenia.
A code yellow alert for snowfall is still on in Banat, most part of Crisana, western and northern Oltenia and in the Carpathians as well.
