Update: USR to have another internal referendum – whether to collaborate or not with former PM Dacian Ciolos’ NGO. We have no plan for mergers – the answer reads

The Save Romania Union (USR) will organize a new internal referendum, in which the members of the party will decide at the beginning of October whether there is a collaboration between USR and ‘Romania 100’, led by former Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, Vice-president Ionut Mosteanu has announced on Tuesday. He said that “USR did not consult the Romanian Platform 100 to agree upon this referendum, this being strictly an initiative of colleague Vasile Deac and his colleagues from USR Mehedinti.”

Vasile Deac, chairman of the USR Mehedinti branch, is the one who initiated this internal referendum and has collected signatures for his organization. In his turn, Alin Cristian Mituta, former cabinet director of Dacian Ciolos during his term as prime minister and founder of ‘Romania 100’ Platform, wrote on Tuesday on his Facebook page that “I also want to confirm that this internal referendum which I understand it will be initiated by USR on the collaboration/merger with the ‘Romania 100’ Platform is USR’s exclusive initiative that was not discussed or agreed upon with the RO100.”

‘Romania 100’- We have no plan for mergers on the agenda

Co-founder of ‘Romania 100’ Platform Alin Cristian Mituta, former cabinet Director for Dacian Ciolos, has replied later on Tuesday that “currently the priority for Romania 100 os to build along with our 35,000 supporters and 8,000 active members actual solutions for Romania’s modernisation, as we have announced. For this reason, on the agenda of Romania 100 Platform there is no merger.”

Mituta thanked USR Vice-president Ionut Mosteanu for the information, but underlines that the referendum is a strictly internal affair of USR “on the issue of collaboration/merger with Romania 100, which hasn’t been discussed or agreed upon by RO100.”
