The US Ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm, has voiced concern on Monday, mentioning other eleven envoys, regarding the amendments to the Criminal Codes, given that these amendments could have had consequences in terms of fight against organized crime and terrorism.

Ambassador Klemm said that Parliament is the forum to review the laws of justice, adding that he had been concerned about the above mentioned amendments, being one of the 12 ambassadors who expressed preoccupation in June. He stressed that the reason is related to the good cooperation between Romania and the United States in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, trafficking. The cooperation is close and the concern was that the amendments could block the ability for us to cooperate. Encouraged by the Constitutional Court decision, we need to see the details of this decision and, of course, it is up to the Parliament to carry out the review, the US envoy said. Hans Klemm added that the concerns were communicated to several persons, including to the members of the main political parties, with the hope it will be heard.
