President-elect Klaus Iohannis will have Villa Lac 3 as official residence during his term, but that will happen after the outgoing president Traian Basescu moves out of it. Until then, the Government granted Iohannis Villa Lac 2 to dwell in. According to the law, Traian Basescu has 60 days to leave the presidential residence, starting with December 22 when his term comes to an end.
“It is a 2,000 square meters building and has a 37,230 square meters surrounding land. A sauna and an outdoor pool are included”, official gov’t sources told Mediafax. According to the RA-APPS documents, both villas, Lac 2 and Lac 3 have also a skating rink, a tennis court and a vestiary.
Located on Turgheniev Street, Primaverii Boulevard, Villa Lac 3 used to be one of the most sumptuous villas built by order of the former communist ruler Nicolae Ceausescu.
Klaus Iohannis had an one-hour meeting with President Basescu on Wednesday at the Cotroceni Palace to talk about the taking-over of the presidential position. “I shall meet again President Basescu at Cotroceni on Sunday on the occasion of the power shift’s official ceremony,” Iohannis wrote on his Facebook page.
