A donation of books brought joy to 2,000 children from three schools

Over 2,000 pupils from three secondary schools in Ciorogârla, Apața and Aiud will have something to read for a long time to come, as these institutions received a donation of over 1,200 new books and library furniture from a construction company whose social responsibility strategy includes supporting children and young people.

The beginning of the year brought a pleasant surprise to students from secondary schools No. 1 in Ciorogârla, “Apaczai Csere Janos” in Apața, and “Ovidiu Hulea” in Aiud, where the construction company AKTOR, with the support of the National Federation of Parents (FNaP ProEDU) and Arthur Publishing House, donated 1,212 new books as part of the “Read and Grow with AKTOR” project, for the revival of school libraries in Romania, as you can see in the newsreel posted here.

“The three schools are in localities in which AKTOR has carried out or is carrying out infrastructure projects. These are Ciorogârla where we will complete Lot 3 of the A0 South Highway in the spring, Apața, where AKTOR is drilling the longest railway tunnels in Romania, and Aiud, where we completed Lot 2 of the A10 Sebeș-Turda Highway. We have created and are creating infrastructure, now we are offering the little ones the chance to read and learn new things, to develop intellectually and become educated adults. I want to emphasize that all the books are new, the titles being selected in accordance with the pedagogical recommendations for the students’ age,” explained Antonis Kyriakos, General Manager of AKTOR Romania.

“I am delighted to support this project through which AKTOR has made it possible for two thousand children to enjoy the magic of reading, amid the dwindling resources in many school libraries, especially in disadvantaged areas. We have recognized the essential role that libraries play in completing the education of the little ones and in ensuring equal access to knowledge for all children. We hope that this project will also serve as an inspiration for other potential book donors”, added Eugen Ilea, president of FNaP ProEDU.

Along with books, the schools also received bookcases and poufs, to create appropriate reading corners. Also, AKTOR, FNaP ProEDU and Arthur Publishing House offered students from Secondary School No. 1 in Ciorogârla a workshop entitled “How a Book is Born”, supported by writer Adina Popescu, author of the book “Stories from the Santa Claus’ Path” published by Arthur Publishing House.

“The books received are a priceless gift, which many children will enjoy from now on. The purchase of a book represents a financial effort for many families, so this donation compensates for a chronic lack, until now, in the education of the little ones. We are grateful for this gesture that is so beautiful and so useful for our children”, said Prof. Gabriela Ilisie, director of Secondary School No. 1 Ciorogârla.

“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have sent us. The books are extraordinary. The children are very excited, as are the teachers”, said Prof. Marinela Dărăbanț-Lienerth, director of the “Apaczai Csere Janos” Secondary School in Apața.

“Dear sponsors, you have given us the opportunity to have a library with state-of-the-art books, selected works by Arthur Publishing House and other publishers that our students would never have been able to buy and which they now enjoy thanks to you. You have fulfilled a dream of mine and the children of this school to have something to read in the school premises. This is thanks to people who also think about poor children. “You have no idea how much joy you have brought to our souls, and I’m not just saying this for the sake of saying it,” said Rusanda Dingă, librarian at the “Ovidiu Hulea” Seondary School in Aiud.
