Wages of Gorj town hall staff, down by 20% over lack of money for investments

The employees of the town hall in Balesti locality in Gorj county (southwestern Romania) are getting wages lower by 20 percent. The decision has been taken by the mayor, with the agreement of those 50 employees, amid efforts to find money to continue investments in the locality.

The town hall staff have signed they agree the measure, hoping to recover the loss at the budgetary rectification promised by the Government in July.

I have taken this measure precisely to avoid blockage. We decided that two month ago, to decrease salaries by 20%, with the employee’s consent, to be able to continue the projects under way in the commune,” the mayor Madalin Ungureanu said.

The town hall needs over RON 200,000 for the salary payment on a monthly basis.

Overall, about RON 50,000 have been saved so far from the salary fund, to pay for the co-financing part to the sewage works and to the construction works for a  new kindergarten.
