A new edition of the White Night of the Art Galleries – NAG- will take place on October 6, starting 7 p.m. in the art galleries, alternative spaces, creative hubs and artist workshops from 12 cities in Romania: Bucharest, Arad, Baia Mare, Brașov, Cluj Napoca, Craiova, Iași, Petrila, Reșița, Sibiu, Târgu Mureș and Timișoara.
The focus of the event this year will the Petrila Exhibition in Bucharest, which focuses on the Petrila mine. Petrila is part of the NAG programme starting this year due to the cultural projects endorsed by a group of artists, architects, writers, poets, musicians and actors for the past ten years, in order to save the Petrila mine, one of the most important industrial patrimony monuments in Romania, from demolition.
Another important project of the event refers to the foreign guests. Ephemair Association is continuing the “Search&Research RO” programme initiated last year, which invites a group of foreign experts in contemporary art to discover the local cultural scene. This year, five foreign top curators are coming to Bucharest: Miguel Amado – Middlesbrough, UK – Senior Curator at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, UK; Geir Haraldseth – Stavanger, Norway – Director at Rogaland Kunstsenter (Rogaland Contemporary Art Centre (RCA); Gabi Scardi – Milan, Italy – curator and art critic; Evelyn Simons – Brussels, Belgium – curator, researcher, writer and project coordinator at CAP private contemporary art center in Brussels and Stefan Vicedom – Frankfurt, Germany – curator, researcher, and associate at Städel Museum from Frankfurt.
The one –week programme “Search & Research RO“ will also include a visiting tour across the institutions and galleries attending the NAG 2017, as well as research journeys to Timisoara and Arad and several visits to the studios of the Bucharest artists.
A debate will end the event at Rezidenta BRD Scena9 in Bucharest on October 10.
