MEP Daciana Sarbu, wife of former Prime Minister Victor Ponta, has announced that, as of Monday, she will resign from PSD and will carry on her term with the European Parliament as independent MEP, in the social-democratic group, digi24.ro reports.
“I have decided that, as of Monday July 9, 2018, to resign from the Social-Democratic Party and to continue my term at the European Parliament as independent MEP, in the S&D group. I will continue to fight for the same causes I believed in until now – better health programmes, equal rights for all Romanian consumers, higher chances for Romanian farmers, clean environment for all of us. When I complete my term, I will continue to support such projects even outside the politics,” Daciana Sarbu wrote on her Facebook page.
Daciana Sarbu is the daughter of former PSD leader Ilie Sarbu and wife of former PM Victor Ponta.
She has worked with the European Parliament since 2007 as delegate from the Romanian Parliament and since 2009 as PSD MP
